Norton Cross These tugs, Eston Cross & Norton Cross, very distinctive in their appearance, are 2 of several built by Richard Dunstons (Hessle) Ltd, during the early to mid 80's, for the Tees Towing Company for operations on the River Tees. As the 20th century moved into the new millennium and ownership of the fleet passed to Cory, then Wijsmuller, then Svitzer, the boats, with their unique qualities/handling characteristics have been dispersed to various ports of the UK, and now to be seen operating on the Mersey, Tyne, South Wales etc. Known as Tractor-Tugs, because the propulsion units protrude from the bottom of the hull forward of midship, (aprox. below the wheelhouse) the Ralph Cross, first of the new fleet, was actually a stern drive tug driven by two engines through one prop and Kort nozzle, which is the propulsion system we at Mobile Marine Models advocate, as in this configuration the Norton has proved to be an ideal prototype for the modeller requiring a thoroughly rugged workhorse.

Model Details The full size plan accompanying the Norton model GRP detailed hull show the 'Z' peller location with a detail alternative single screw conventional stern Kort nozzle drive system, thus giving you, the modeller, complete freedom of choice, and a model that steers perfectly backwards. Rust colour GelCoat (scratch the paint and rust shows through) with wood or plastic deck and superstructure. OAL - 34" (865mm) Beam - 11" (280mm)
